Newman may lose seat: poll

Queensland Premier Campbell Newman may be without a seat after the state election, with a poll of voters in his electorate indicating more people plan to vote for the opposition.

A Seven News ReachTEL poll of voters in the seat of Ashgrove shows 47.6 per cent intend to vote for Labor candidate Kate Jones, while 43.7 per cent plan to vote for Mr Newman.

Despite their voting intentions, Ashgrove residents still think Mr Newman will win the seat over Ms Jones, 51.4 per cent to 48.6 per cent.

Mr Newman’s claim of first preferences has increased 3 per cent since a July ReachTEL poll where only 39.1 per cent of voters intended to vote for the premier at the election.

Five per cent of voters said Greens candidate Robert Hogg would receive their first preference vote.

The Queensland state election will be held on January 31.
