The Queensland government’s lost the plot by suggesting revellers sign up to a code of conduct to promote spew-free zones, the opposition says.

Premier Campbell Newman says partygoers will be urged not to fight, be public nuisances or vomit during a night out.

Have a whale of a time.

The code will be released for comment as part of a package to be released later this month to curb alcohol-fuelled violence.

“The ultimate code of conduct is this: go out, have a great night out in Brisbane or any city or town,” the premier told News Corp.

“Have a whale of a time but just understand that the test is your behaviour must not impact on other people’s enjoyment of that night-life scene as well.”

Opposition police spokesman Bill Byrne discredited the push, which he says dances around late night trading hours.

“I don’t know what’s going in the government’s mind about this issue,” he said.

“It is a completely secondary, reactionary response to what is self evident to anybody who understands this.

“The key issue that you can build all the other pieces around is trading hours and the availability of alcohol.

“The government is looking for every excuse possible to avoid the central issues.”
