Stradbroke Island fire alert lifted

An emergency bushfire alert for a blaze on Queensland’s North Stradbroke Island has been cancelled.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) issued the emergency warning for residents between Gatumba Street and Beehive Road on Saturday night after a fast-moving fire was located east of Myora about 8pm.

In a statement early on Sunday, QFES said the fire was ongoing but the area had been evacuated.

A Watch and Act message for residents located on the northside of Mitchell Crescent, Illawong Crescent, Rainbow Crescent, Dickson Way and north to the Seven Mile Sbend remained in place.

Residents on Russell Island were also being urged to remain vigilant amid reports of flying embers in the area.

QFES said people should clear around their properties, monitor conditions closely and, if possible, extinguish any small spot fires.
