Clive Palmer boosts lead on LNP as Fairfax vote recount continues

Queensland businessman Clive Palmer has increased his lead on the Liberal National Party (LNP) in the federal seat of Fairfax on the state’s Sunshine Coast.

The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) says about 70 per cent of the recount has been completed in Australia’s last undecided electorate.

Mr Palmer now leads the LNP’s Ted O’Brien by 66 votes.

AEC spokesman Phil Diak says the recount will continue well into next week.

“Getting well through the polling places and then there’s some declaration votes – about 15,000 of those were cast in Fairfax,” he said.

“We have to recount those as well with reintegrating any challenged votes, so there’s still quite a deal of work to do there.

“It’s continuing this week and well into next week.”
