Western Downs to get more flood gauges

More flood gauges will be installed on Queensland’s western Darling Downs to increase flood preparedness.

The Western Downs has had several major floods in the past three years.

The regional council says the installation of 18 flood warning alert stations will increase preparedness for future flood events.

They will be upstream of the towns of Jandowae, Chinchilla and Warra.

All the stations will be linked to the Bureau of Meteorology’s flood predicting telemetry system.

Installation is expected to be completed by January and is funded by the Department of Local Government and the Royalties for Regions program.
