Police hope drug bust deters would-be traffickers

Two major police operations targeting drug traffickers in Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast have closed today.

Queensland police seized around $650,000 worth of methylamphetamine, MDMA, cocaine and cannabis over 14 months.

They have charged 54 people with a total of 234 offences.

Detective Inspector Dave Drinnen says the operations have had a major influence on drug traffickers.

“This will be significant because of the number of people on the case within Brisbane that it has affected and taking out some quite serious and major drug traffickers in the network,” he said.

Inspector Drinnen says he hopes the success of previous police operations will deter traffickers in future.

“Those others are out there that see what is going on, that if you want to get yourself involved in this unlawful activity then you can expect that the full force of the law will be thrown at you,” he said.

More arrests are expected to follow further investigations.
