Cyclist hit and killed by tour bus on NT highway

A female cyclist has been killed by a tour bus 250 kilometres south west of Alice Springs.

Northern Territory Police said the 21-year-old was wearing dark clothing and riding a black bicycle when she was hit by the tour bus about nine o’clock last night, 11 kilometres west of Mt Ebenezer.

Police from Imanpa and Kulgera were first on the scene and major crash investigators have travelled from Alice Springs to take over the investigation.

Alice Springs Watch Commander Darrell Kerr said the woman’s identity has not been confirmed.
“If anyone has witnessed the accident or seen a lady on a bicycle in the area prior to the accident, please contact police,” Commander Kerr said.

The Lasseter Highway will be partially closed near Mount Ebenezer until mid-morning.

The Northern Territory road toll has risen to 33.
