Officer pleads not guilty to child porn charges

A senior Australian military officer posted to Jakarta in Indonesia has appeared via videolink in the Darwin Magistrates Court on child pornography charges.

The man, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, has been charged on two counts of possessing child abuse material in Darwin and four charges of possessing child pornography outside Australia.

He was arrested by the Australian Federal Police in Darwin at the end of July 2012 as he travelled from Indonesia.

It is understood the two Darwin counts relate to allegations of child abuse material being found on his computer.

The other charges relate to material he allegedly viewed or produced in his Jakarta residence.

The man has entered pleas of not guilty to all charges.

The Commonwealth Department of Public Prosecutions today withdrew one of the Darwin charges.

The man will appear in court again in November.
