People were urged to stay away from the vicinity of Sydney’s Westmead Children’s Hospital as a major police operation was underway.

Emergency services attended the scene on Hawkesbury Road, where a police operation began just before 8am.

Police advised people stay away from the area and follow instructions and directions from emergency personnel.

Media reported that armoured trucks were seen driving away from the area shortly before 9am.

Police confirmed the operation concluded at that time and thanked the public for their patience throughout the morning.

The hospital reportedly received a “threatening email” on Tuesday morning, sparking a police response.

“Police have advised there is no current risk to the hospital,” a Westmead spokesperson said.

“All patients, families and staff are safe and clinical care has not been impacted.”

Patients are urged to keep their appointments at the hospital.
