NSW paramedics will run a 24-hour industrial action from Tuesday morning to pressure the state government for better conditions and resources.

The paramedics union said it would ban staff movements and undertaking scheduled non-urgent transfers as part of the action.

Australian Paramedics Association NSW assistant secretary Alan O’Riordan said members were at their wits’ end.

“Our health system is in crisis; we are seeing massive levels of burnout amongst healthcare staff, including our paramedics and nurses,” Mr O’Riordan said on Sunday.

“Each year our patients are waiting longer and longer for an ambulance and then a hospital bed.

“Despite this, the NSW government has refused to lift a finger to try to address these issues.”

The union wants 1500 extra paramedics and boosted pay. Tuesday’s industrial action follows a similar campaign in February.

It came as nurses also planned to walk off the job for 24 hours on Thursday to hold public rallies calling for pay rises and improved nurse to patient ratios.
