A homicide investigation is underway after a woman died on a footpath behind an inner Sydney unit block.
The woman was discovered with injuries at the back of the 11-storey complex on Rose Valley Way in Zetland about 8.45pm on Monday, police said.
Emergency services were called but she could not be revived and died at the scene.
Investigators have ruled out the possibility of self-harm and are treating the death as suspicious.
Police are looking at whether the woman fell from a balcony at the unit block.
Pictures from the scene show a badly damaged white steel fence behind the complex.
Police were unable to confirm reports the woman had suffered a number of injuries before she was found on the footpath.
Residents from the unit block on Tuesday told News Corp Australia they heard someone screaming before her body was discovered.
“My friend came over and she heard it in the hallway when she came into our apartment … she literally said ‘it sounds like someone’s dying in there’,” one said.
“Just screaming, so it sounded like someone young or a female.”
