The brother of Sydney nightclub identity John Ibrahim has faced court over his alleged involvement in an international tobacco-smuggling syndicate.

Fadi Ibrahim, 45, appeared in Downing Centre District Court on Friday when his case was adjourned until April 5, when the indictment is expected to be finalised.

He and younger brother Moustafa ‘Michael’ Ibrahim were arrested in Dubai in 2017 as part of a police operation that involved officers raiding dozens of homes across Sydney, including John Ibrahim’s property in Dover Heights.

John Ibrahim has not been charged.

Fadi Ibrahim is expected to return to the same court on Monday after his application to have some bail conditions modified was rejected because of a clerical error.

District Court Chief Judge Derek Price said an email from the bail surety approving the bail change was “not good enough” and the court would require the paper form signed by the surety.

Moustafa, who remains in custody, had his case adjourned until February 22 to allow time for a co-accused’s case to be dealt with by the Local Court.
