Emergency services have pulled a male diver’s body from the water near the Brighton Bar netted area in Sydney’s south.

The man, believed to be in his 30s, was free-diving with his partner on the western edge of Botany Bay on Monday evening when he failed to surface.

Police were contacted and went to the scene at about 7pm.

Local officers, Sydney Water Police and Surf Life Savers joined the search, and a helicopter was sent in to assist.

The dead man was pulled from the water at about 8:30pm.

Free-divers do not use underwater breathing apparatus and rely on holding their breath to explore under the water’s surface.
