A toddler has died after being found unconscious at the bottom of an inflatable pool in Bass Hill in Sydney’s south-west.

Police said on Monday morning that the two-year-old had drowned in a “portable wading pool”.

Emergency services were called to a home just after 6.45pm on Sunday, where they found the two-year-old boy.

He was treated by paramedics at the scene and rushed with a police escort to the Westmead Children’s Hospital, where he later died.

The Daily Telegraph reported that family members had emerged from the home hysterical and crying as they consoled one another.

A crime scene has been established at the home and police are conducting inquiries into the incident.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
