A 23-month-old boy pulled unconscious from a Sydney pool has died, three days after the death of his twin sister on Boxing Day.

The twins were rushed to the Children’s Hospital at Westmead under police escort lon December 20 after they were discovered in a Kellyville Ridge pool around 7pm.

The little girl died on Monday, and the hospital on Thursday confirmed the boy has since died.

News of the twins’ ordeals had spread through the community, with a local Catholic church holding a special service to pray for their recovery.

“My heart is broken for my beautiful friends,” a friend of the parents posted on Facebook after the girl’s death.

“Why is life so cruel to the people who don’t deserve it?”

The toddlers are the youngest of six children in the family and their mother was heard screaming for help after making the discovery, the Seven Network reported.

A neighbour who assisted with CPR said she didn’t think she’d ever have to use her emergency training.

“But by seven o’clock I was in there doing the best I could possibly do to keep those children going,” she previously told reporters.
