A one-year-old girl has drowned in a backyard pool in Sydney’s southwest.

Police say that at about 4.15pm on Sunday the girl was found floating in the pool at Raby.

She was pulled from the water and rushed to Campbelltown Hospital by ambulance where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner.

In a separate, unrelated incident, a toddler is fighting for life in a Sydney hospital after almost drowning in a backyard pool.

The two-year-old boy was rescued at a home on Castlewood Drive, Castle Hill, just before 4pm on Saturday and flown to hospital.

He was still in a critical condition at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead on Saturday evening but due to privacy restrictions, his current condition is unknown.

The boy was believed to have been in the pool for five minutes before he was found, the Seven Network reported on Saturday.
