A man is in a coma in hospital after being seriously injured in a suspected one-punch attack in central Sydney in the early hours of this morning.

Police responding to reports of an assault found a man in his thirties with head and facial injuries on George Street at Haymarket around 12.45am.

Paramedics treated the man at the scene before he was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital in a critical condition and placed in an induced coma.

He remains in intensive care where his condition is now listed as serious but stable.

Police are working to identify the victim.

They said they were reviewing security camera footage and had taken several items for forensic examination.
