Controversial party-boy and former Sydney councillor Salim Mehajer has been arrested in European party capital, Ibiza.

Mr Mehajer was allegedly involved in an altercation with a local taxi driver and was seen being handcuffed and put into a police van, A Current Affair exclusively reported.

It is unclear if Mr Mehajer was charged, and he would not elaborate on the incident when he arrived home to Sydney on Monday night.

A Current Affair reported the footage was filmed on Friday on the party island of Ibiza, Spain.

Footage reportedly showed police restraining Mr Mehajer and two friends after they were called when a cab driver claimed Mr Mehajer had attempted to kick him from inside the cab.

Mr Mehajer, the former deputy mayor of Auburn in Sydney, had been on a European holiday.

The property developer rose to notoriety last year when his extravagant wedding shut down a western Sydney street.

“We understand the arrest, happened Friday night Spanish time, when Salim and his two friends got into a taxi, eating their take away food,” A Current Affair reported.

“A heated argument erupted”, the program claimed, after ice cream and chips were spilt in the taxi.

“The driver became annoyed. The driver then claims, from the back seat, Salim attempted to kick him The taxi driver called the police,” according to A Current Affair.

Footage showed Mr Mehajer and two other men – believed to be his friends – on the side of the road with police, at times joking with the officers.

In July, Mr Mehajer had a Apprehended Violence Order against him from estranged wife Aysha continued by a Sydney court.

The matter was later resolved without more court action.

He is awaiting criminal trial over alleged electoral fraud offences.
