Woman dies in light plane crash south of Sydney

A woman has died in a light plane crash at Wedderburn in Sydney’s south-west.

Emergency services rushed to the scene where it is believed a Cessna went down about 5:00pm (AEST).

The plane crashed in bushland close to the airstrip at Wedderburn Airport and metres from the road, killing one woman on board and seriously injuring another.

The injured woman has been flown to Liverpool Hospital in a serious condition.

It is unclear what caused the accident and whether the plane was taking off or landing at the time.

Police have closed Lysaght Road at Blackburn Road where investigations into the cause of the crash are continuing.

The small suburb’s airport, operated by New South Wales Sports Aircraft Club.
