Man jailed over death of elderly Forbes scooter rider

A Forbes man has been sentenced to three years jail over the death of an elderly woman who was on a mobility scooter.

Police said Shane John Corner, 30, was driving under the influence of drugs when he hit and killed the 84 year old woman in Forbes in July 2012.

He was 28 at the time and struck the woman on a scooter, with his car, leaving her with life threatening injuries.

Corner was found guilty of dangerous driving occasioning death in October.

He appeared in the Wagga Wagga District Court yesterday where he was handed down a three year jail term, with a non parole period of one year and eight months.

Corner will be eligible for parole in June 2016.
