Harriet Wran to face court on murder charges

The daughter of former NSW premier Neville Wran is due to face a Sydney court on murder charges over a double stabbing at a notorious housing commission unit block in Redfern.

Harriet Wran, 26, was believed to be living rough and high on ice when she, Lloyd Edward Haines, 29, and 35-year-old Michael Lee in August allegedly murdered Daniel McNulty – believed to be a drug dealer in the inner-west suburb.

It is alleged Wran was desperate to score drugs when a fight broke out with Mr McNulty, who was stabbed twice and died from the wounds.

A witness, Brett Fitzgerald, was also stabbed several times.

Wran, Haines and Lee have been charged with murder, attempted murder and aggravated break and enter over the attack.

“At this stage we’ll be pleading not guilty,” Wran’s defence barrister Winston Terracini SC said during a court appearance in August.

It’s believed Wran, who’s the goddaughter of Kerry Packer, relapsed into drugs shortly before her father’s death in April.

Neville Wran was the Labor premier of NSW between 1976 and 1986 and one of the most revered figures in the state’s political history.

His daughter will front Sydney’s Central Local Court on Wednesday, having being held in custody since her arrest.

Haines is due before the same court on Thursday.
