Runner dies after City2Surf

A man competing in Sydney’s City to Surf race has died after collapsing near the finish line.

The 27-year-old went into cardiac arrest at Bondi Beach just before 11am on Sunday.

“He passed away at the hospital, shortly after arriving,” a St Vincent’s Hospital spokesman told AAP.

The man was reportedly from the beachside suburb of Coogee.

More than 80,000 people took part in the 14km race from the Sydney CBD to Bondi Beach – by way of the infamous “Heartbreak Hill”.

Olympian Craig Mottram won the men’s category of the race.

The women’s category was taken out by South Australian Casey Wood.

Paralympian Kurt Fearnley won the elite wheelchair category.
