It was a dry night in Sydney

Thousands of households in Sydney’s south will be without water overnight as crews work to repair a burst water main at Bexley.

Water supply will be shut off to properties in Bexley, Rockdale, Arncliffe and Bardwell Valley from 9pm tonight until 7am tomorrow.

Sydney Water spokesman Karl Schubert says the extent of the repair works is still unknown.

“We’re not sure what has caused this main to burst. Our crews’ priorities, first and foremost, are to get it repaired and get water restored to the area as quickly as possible,” he said.

“We would expect that the majority of 6,500 properties to potentially be without water this evening… while others may be without water for the duration of the repairs.

“We would advise customers to plan to not have water from around 9pm this evening until around 7am tomorrow morning.”

Mr Schubert says crews will start work to repair the burst water main around 9pm.

“It’s expected that work will be completed around 7am on Sunday morning, however, this timing is dependent on the scope of the repairs required,” he said.

The supplier has encouraged customers to plan for overnight water use by filling additional containers.
