A NSW father allegedly gave his 12-year-old daughter sex advice and arranged an unlawful marriage between her and a man because he didn’t want her to “live a sinful life”.

The 61-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at Burwood Local Court via video link on Wednesday.

He has been charged with procuring a child under 14 for unlawful sexual activities and being an accessory before the fact to sexual intercourse with a person under 14.

A 26-year-old Lebanese man, who has had his student visa cancelled and been placed in immigration detention, has been charged with 25 counts of sexual intercourse with a child between 10 and 14 years.

He was at Burwood Court on Wednesday accompanied by guards contracted by the immigration department.

Police allege the young girl’s father facilitated the sexual assault of his daughter by actively arranging the “unlawful marriage”.

The father has admitted he consented to the marriage, according to police facts.

“It’s a way of not committing a sin,” he told detectives.

Court documents say the Hunter Valley girl met the 26-year-old University of Newcastle student in November 2013 after he approached her father and expressed a wish to meet her.

The pair met a handful of times at the family home before they were married in an Islamic ceremony in the living room in January this year.

The girl, now 13, told child abuse investigators that shortly after the ceremony, her father gave her sexual advice.

She said he told her that the couple should not use contraceptives.

Investigators were told the pair spent their wedding night at a motel in the Hunter region.

About a week after the wedding, the girl said her dad had prepared a bed for her and her “husband” at the family home by instructing her older siblings to place two single mattresses side by side.

“Since their marriage (the pair) have engaged in sexual activities on a daily basis,” court documents state.

The police report states “the girl has expressed a strong desire to start a family with the 26-year-old”.

Both the father and the 26-year-old had their cases adjourned until June 18, when it’s expected they will enter a plea.
