85yo man charged with intent to murder

An 85-year-old man has been charged over a shooting at a unit block meeting in Sydney’s south-west.

Police were called to the unit block on Quigg Street in Lakemba about 7:00pm on Thursday night and found a 66-year-old man with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the neck.

The 85-year-old alleged shooter was arrested at the scene and taken to hospital with a suspected broken skull after he fell down a flight of stairs during the incident.

He was last night charged with shooting with intent to murder, as well as firearms offences.

It is alleged the older man shot the strata manager during an annual meeting of the body corporate. Witnesses say there had been a dispute about strata management before the shooting.

A bedside court hearing will be held at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital today.
