Woman, 91, hurt in Sydney dog attack

A 91-year-old woman is being treated for serious injuries after being attacked by a dog in Sydney’s south.

The woman was on the driveway of a home in Sans Souci when she was attacked by an American Pit Bull Terrier about 7pm last night.

Her 69-year-old daughter ran outside when she heard her mother screaming, and found the dog on top of her, police said.

With help from two men passing by, she managed to pull the dog off and lock it inside the house.

The 91-year-old woman suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries to her head, neck, chin, and ear, and is in hospital awaiting surgery.

Her daughter was also taken to hospital, and was treated for cuts and puncture wounds to her hands.

The dog has since been removed and taken to an animal shelter, and police are liaising with council rangers about what action should be taken against the dog’s owner.
