Helmet removed after fatal base jump: police

Police want to speak to a person they believe fled the scene of a fatal base jump in Victoria’s south-east on Saturday afternoon.

Emergency Services found the body of a 23 year old Muswellbrook man at Omega Tower at Giffard.

The tower is the tallest structure in Australia at 432 metres.

Detective Sergeant, Ian Maher, says he believes another person fled the scene and possibly took a camera from the deceased man’s helmet.

“When police arrived at the scene we’d found that the person’s helmet had been removed, we believe that’s happened post-impact,” he said.

“We’re also aware that the helmet is fitted with Go-Pro mounts for a portable camera and we haven’t been able to locate a camera at the scene.”

Detective Sergeant Maher, says the investigations are continuing.

“We’re confident there was another person present when this happened and we’re hoping that this person will come forward and provide us with an account of what’s happened to assist us with our investigation,” he said.
