Public funeral to be held for punch victim

The life of Daniel Christie, who died after being punched in Kings Cross, will be celebrated at a public ceremony in Sydney.

The 18-year-old was attacked on New year’s Eve and died in hospital on the weekend.

Shaun McNeil, 25, is accused of murdering Mr Christie by punching him in an unprovoked attack in the notorious Sydney nightlife precinct.

A public funeral for Mr Christie will be held at the Hillsong Church Convention Centre in Baulkham Hills at 10am (AEDT) on Friday.

Governor-General Quentin Bryce is said to be attending the funeral as an expression of community opposition to violence on Sydney’s streets.
