Man charged after man stabbed in Tamworth

A man has been charged in relation to the alleged stabbing of another man with a screwdriver in northern NSW.

Police allege a man and a woman went to a house on Robert Street at Tamworth about 8.40am (AEDT) on Wednesday where an argument took place with a resident.

They say a 21-year-old male neighbour intervened, asking the pair to leave, when a fight broke out and the neighbour was stabbed with a screwdriver.

The injured man was taken to Tamworth Base Hospital before being transferred to John Hunter Hospital for treatment.

Officers later arrested a 29-year-old man at a home on Tingira Street and he was later charged with malicious wounding with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm.

The man was refused bail to appear before Tamworth Local Court on Thursday.
