A man has been shot dead in the doorway of his home in Sydney’s inner west.

Police say the 50-year-old answered a knock at the front door of his home on Jersey Road in Strathfield at about 9.45pm (AEDT) on Monday when he was gunned down in what appears to be a targeted shooting.

Emergency services were called to the home, but weren’t able to save him.

Detectives from the Burwood Local Area Command and the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad are investigating.
