Man charged over stabbings in Sydney

A man has been charged over a stabbing attack in Sydney’s west in which a 70-year-old woman and her son were left with life-threatening injuries.

The woman and her 43-year-old son were found at separate areas on Northcote Street in Auburn on Wednesday afternoon, suffering serious injuries.

Both were taken to Westmead Hospital and have undergone surgery.

They remain in a critical condition.

Detective Sergeant Karl Leis told Nine News it had appeared to be a domestic incident.

“There was quite heavy bleeding for both of those victims and police had to stem the flow of bleeding till ambulance arrived,” Dec Sgt Leis said.

Nine reported the man set upon the elderly woman first before chasing the 43-year-old man down the street and chopping at his head, neck and arms before neighbours intervened.

Police arrested a 49-year-old man at the scene and he has been charged with two counts of cause wounding/grievous bodily harm to a person with intent to murder.

He’s been refused bail and will appear at Burwood Local Court today.
