Fresh safety warning for rock fishermen after Redhead death

Rock fishermen are being reminded they should have access to safety equipment at all times after a man was killed at Redhead Beach at the weekend.

Emergency services were called to Redhead bluff on Saturday afternoon after reports a fisherman had been struck by a large wave and washed off the rocks.

The 35-year-old man’s body was found near a rock ledge after a search by police, ambulance helicopters and members of the Redhead Surf Life Saving Club.

Police are again urging rock fishermen to be careful and constantly monitor the ocean for any change in conditions.

A report is being prepared for the coroner.
