A man has been charged over a fatal stabbing at Lake Macquarie in the New South Wales Hunter region.

Police say a 29-year-old man was stabbed in the chest and torso during a fight with another man at a unit in Windale last night.

The injured man was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to Newcastle’s John Hunter Hospital, where he died.

Police say a 39-year-old man was arrested at the scene and he will face court later today.
