Three men have been charged over a triple stabbing at Lithgow.

Police say a 29 year old man was walking along Carey Avenue last night when he was attacked by three men and stabbed in the leg.

Two men who came to his aid were also set upon by the group.

Both suffered stab wounds to their backs.

Two of the injured men were airlifted to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition, while the other was treated and released by Lithgow Hospital.

The offenders fled the scene but were arrested by police in Junction Street.

The men aged between 18 and 23 have been charged with a number of offences including reckless wounding, affray.

One will face court in Lithgow today while the others will appear next month.
