38yo allegedly in possession of child abuse material

A man facing more than a dozen charges relating to the alleged possession of child abuse material, illegal drugs and unregistered firearms has been refused bail at Armidale Local Court.

Matthew David Cornish, 38, was arrested earlier this month after detectives from the Sex Crimes Squad searched a property in the Armidale area.

They seized seven unregistered firearms, ammunition, 12 kilograms of cannabis, and computers and electronic storage devices.

The accused is facing multiple charges relating to the alleged production, dissemination and possession of child abuse material.

He’s also facing charges in relation to alleged drug cultivation, possession and supply, dealing with the proceeds of crime, and possessing unregistered firearms, as well as other weapons and ammunition offences.

Magistrate Karen Stafford adjourned the matter to December 4 at Armidale Local Court.

Bail was applied for and was formally refused.
