Pair charged over misleading locals about bushfire evacuations

A 23-year-old man and a 15-year-old girl have been charged after they allegedly misled members of the public in fire-affected areas in Hawkesbury on Thursday.

NSW Police say they were called to reports at 6.45am of two people asking local residents to evacuate their homes due to fires burning in the Bowen Mountain area.

Police located the pair at the scene and they were questioned and searched. Methylamphetamine was allegedly found on the teenager.

The pair were arrested and taken to Penrith Police Station.

The man was charged with two counts of giving false information about a person or property in danger and was refused bail.

He will appear at Penrith Local Court on Friday.

The teenager was charged with possession of a prohibited drug, possession of equipment for administering prohibited drugs and two counts of giving false information about a person or property in danger.

She was granted conditional bail and will appear in the Children’s Court next month.
