Man holds up Moree pub manager with meat cleaver

A man brandishing a meat cleaver has allegedly robbed a pub in Moree.

In the early hours of Wednesday morning, the manager of a licensed premises on Amaroo Drive was closing up.

While he was still inside the building, a masked man holding a meat cleaver confronted him demanding money.

Detective Inspector Gavin Rattenbury, from Barwon Local Area Command, says the manager was unharmed, but visibly shaken.

“The man demanded that the manager lead him to a safe where the manager was forced to hand over a sum of cash,” he said.

There were no patrons in the tavern at the time the armed robbery took place.

The alleged offender fled, police believe, on foot.

Detective Inspector Rattenbury says police are currently reviewing CCTV footage.

He’s urging anyone with information to contact Moree Police or Crime Stoppers.
