Crews find wreckage of missing plane near Mount Hotham

Rescue crews have found the wreckage of a single-engine Cessna that went missing on a flight between Moruya, New South Wales to Mangalore, Victoria yesterday.

The wreckage was found about 20 kilometres west of Mount Hotham. The pilot died at the scene.

Eight helicopters and two fixed-wing planes were involved in the search in poor weather conditions.

The pilot had been delivering parts for helicopters used in the firefighting effort in New South Wales.

Sam Cardwell from the Australian Maritime Safety Authority says the pilot’s family have been informed and the matter has been referred to the Australian Transport Safety Bureau for investigation.
