Hawkesbury animal haven kept busy

Animals from the Blue Mountains are pouring in to a fire evacuation centre in western Sydney.

Stables at the Hawkesbury Showground are full and temporary stables are being built.

After dropping her animals off, hobby farmer Colleen Keen headed home to fight the fires.

“We have cleared around the property. We have a tractor so it has scraped the back paddocks down to dirt.

“The trees that were around the house have been chopped down and all the timber has been removed. All the leaf litter has been removed.

“We are on tank water and we don’t have a lot of water, what we have today will be put up into the gutters and the gutters will be blocked off and if it is that bad then we leave.”
