Police fear there may be more victims of a middle-aged Brisbane Uber driver accused of raping a female passenger.

The man, 47, allegedly assaulted the woman in the early hours of Thursday while she was a solo passenger in his car.

He picked up the woman, aged in her early 20s, from the Fortitude Valley nightclub precinct and allegedly raped her three times in one attack, police said.
It’s believed the man was an Uber driver.

Detectives are investing “strong leads” and believe the man has sexually assaulted other young woman collected from central Brisbane late at night during the past two years, Acting Inspector David Farley said.

“We’re investigating a series of what we believe are sexual assaults within the vehicle sharing transport industry,” he told reporters on Saturday.

“We believe that there may be other victims out there that may be too scared to come forward.”

The man, who can’t be identified, has been charged with stealing, wilful damage and three counts of rape.

After appearing at Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday he was remanded in custody.

Investigations are continuing and detectives are encouraging anyone with information to contact police.

“Please be brave enough to come forward,” Acting Inspector Farley said.
The accused rapist is due to return to court July 31.
