Popular Australian DJ Adam Neat has died in a tragic accident while trying to help a stricken friend at a Bali resort.

The 42-year-old artist, known professionally as Adam Sky, died while trying to help a female friend who had suffered several broken bones on the Indonesian island on Saturday, his management confirmed Sunday night.

“Relatives and friends of Adam are travelling to Bali and handling all arrangements,” a statement on the producer’s Facebook page said.

“We ask you to respect the family’s privacy at this moment while we all come to terms with our tragic loss.”

Nine News reported local police as saying Neat died of blood loss after crashing through a glass door at Hillstone Villas Resort and slicing his arm.

He’d been rushing to help a friend who’d fallen several metres from a private pool area, Nine said.

Neat was ranked as the third most popular DJ in Asia last year, while based in Singapore.

His website described the DJ as a “powerhouse” of the dance music scene in Asia and had worked with global stars David Guetta and Afrojack.

Neat also hosts a radio show, Guestlist Radio, which reaches more than a million monthly listeners globally.

Tributes poured in on Neat’s Facebook page, which has more than 900,000 followers.

“Absolutely insane. Rest in peace mate, you did a lot for the scene and your friends,” one comment read.

Neat’s father, Australian business leader and former ABC journalist Gary Neat, was expected to arrive in Bali late Sunday.

A Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade spokesperson said the department was providing consular assistance to the family of an Australian man who had died in Bali, but for privacy reasons it was unable to provide further details.
