Too close to home: ‘At Home with Tone’ strikes again

Another episode of satirical political web-series At Home with Tone has dropped and with what’s happened in politics in the past month, this one had more political ammunition than ever.

But it seems to be coming uncomfortably close to reality on some policies.

‘At home with Tone’: satire pokes fun at Abbott
• ‘At Home With Tone’ takes second crack at PM

Opening with a cheeky flag joke and dig at the real Abbott’s comments from five years ago about feeling “threatened” by gay people, Bronwyn Bishop lands in her ‘Bron-mobile’ to host Q&Abbott.

The first question from the audience (aka the Abbott family) is why on earth they needed to replace Q&A with Q&Abbott?

“It was becoming crystal clear that Q&A was a training ground for solar-powered jihadists, this show needs to be on Australia’s side and no-one is more on the side of a team than its own captain,” ‘Abbott’ responds.

After a “mildly sexist joke” from the ‘Prime Minister’, Abbott is asked about what action the Coalition is taking on climate change.

Horrifyingly, the response blurs the lines between satire and reality:

“Well we have axed the carbon tax, we have scrapped the Climate Commission and the Climate Change Authority and banned investments into the wind and solar.

As Bishop slowly ejects all the members of Abbott’s family for contradicting their father’s comments we hear about gay marriage and next week’s Q&Abbott panel, which will include a healthcare worker from Manus Island.

But sadly the worker will be unable to attend as they have been imprisoned for reporting child abuse at the detention centre.

Watch out for the tweets down the bottom – they’re a nice touch.
