Michael Schumacher leaves hospital for rehab

Former F1 champion Michael Schumacher has left a Swiss hospital to continue his recovery at home, almost one year since a skiing accident left him with brain injuries.

A statement released by 45-year-old Schumacher’s manager said he had made significant progress in the last few months despite the serious nature of his injuries.

“…Michael’s rehabilitation will take place at his home. Considering the severe injuries he suffered, progress has been made in the past weeks and months,” read the statement.

No further details have been given on the current condition of the seven-time world champion’s health, but the family spokesperson said there was “a long and difficult road ahead”.

Schumacher spent six months in a French hospital in an induced coma after slamming his head while skiing with his son and friends in the French Alps in December.

He was then transferred to a Swiss hospital closer to his family home, with his family thanking the hospital for their “thorough and competent work”.
