The 77-year-old also hinted at retirement, saying he would consider bowing out should any health issues develop.

According to News.com.au, Francis shared the revelations aboard his jet during a return trip from South Korea.

“Two or three years and then I’ll be off to the Father’s house,” he reportedly joked.

Apart from some nerve issues, the Pope has no known major health problems but said he would consider retiring should any arise.

“Must treat them well, these nerves,” he said, adding that retirement was an option “even if it does not appeal to some theologians”.

The Pope remained modest about his popularity and said he tries to keep a grounded perspective.

“I see it as the generosity of the people of God. I try to think of my sins, my mistakes, not to become proud. Because I know it will last only a short time,” he said.
