Hugh’s cancer scare

The beloved Australian star of Wolverine and Les Miserables this week shared on his Instagram account a photo of himself with a bandage covering his nose.

The reason? Jackman had undergone surgery to remove a skin cancer.

The 45 year-old actor revealed that his wife, Deborra Lee-Furness, encouraged him to have a doctor check a suspicious mark on his nose.

“Deb said to get the mark on my nose checked,” Jackman wrote on his Instagram account. “Boy, was she right! I had a basil (sic) cell carcinoma. Please don’t be foolish like me. Get yourself checked. And USE sunscreen!!!”

According to the Cancer Council Australia, two in three Australians will be diagnosed with skin cancer by the time they are 70. The surest way to beat the cancer is early detection, and prevention simply entails being vigilant with your sunscreen use and wearing a hat year-round.

If you are concerned about skin cancer, call the Cancer Council helpline on 13 11 20.
