The brother of Australian cricketer Usman Khawaja has been charged with allegedly breaching his bail and attempting to influence a witness.

Arsalan Tariq Khawaja was arrested on Thursday afternoon at a home in Westmead in Sydney’s west by investigators from the Joint Counter Terrorism Team, Australian Federal Police, ASIO and the NSW Crime Commission, police said.

The 39-year-old was bailed on a $50,000 surety on December 4 after being charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice and making a false document.

He is accused of framing a University of NSW colleague with a fake terror hit list targeting senior politicians after the document was allegedly found at the university in August.

He’s also accused of lying to AFP and NSW Police officers between August 30 and September 13.

Under his bail conditions, he has to report to a police station three times a week, surrender his passport and not approach within 100 metres of the University of NSW’s Kensington or Cliffbrook campuses.

Khawaja was on Thursday charged with breach of bail and attempting to influence a witness in judicial proceedings.

He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court on Friday.
