Two of the world’s slickest actors have been forced to film a video apologising for failing to declare their dogs on a 2015 visit to Australia.

Johnny Depp and his wife Amber Heard shared the video via the Facebook page of Australia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce.

Hours earlier,  Heard was given a one-month good behaviour bond with no conviction after she illegally brought her dogs, Boo and Pistol, to the Gold Coast on a private jet last year.

Lawyers for Heard said she had prepared the video in the lead-up to the case and it was shown in court.

Mr Joyce said the couple communicated with the Department of Agriculture about filming the apology, but suggested it was a reluctant one.

“I don’t think it’d be something that they would’ve willingly would’ve wanted to do,” Mr Joyce said.

“I hope that now things move on and this issue is left behind, except for the part that it reinforces to all and sundry, don’t take our biosecurity requirements as a joke.”

Heard faced two charges of illegal importation of an animal and one count of producing a false document, however the two biosecurity charges were dropped on Monday morning.

The $1000 good behaviour bond comes after Heard pleaded guilty to falsifying quarantine documents.

Heard illegally brought Boo and Pistol to the Gold Coast on a private jet when she came to see Depp while he was filming the latest Pirates of the Caribbean movie last year.

Upon its release on Monday afternoon, the video was widely shared on social media and had been viewed more than 120,000 times on Facebook.

“I am truly sorry that Pistol and Boo were not declared. Protecting Australia is important,” Heard said in the video.

Depp also appeared in the video.

“When you disrespect Australian law they will tell you firmly,” he said.

“Declare everything when you enter Australia.”
