mX newspaper prints final edition
The final edition of commuter newspaper mX was handed out in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane on Friday.
The tabloid – given out for free in the afternoon and evening at train stations, bus stops and busy areas of the city – started in Melbourne in 2001.
Additional editions of mX, focused on light news, sport and entertainment, launched in Sydney (2005) and Brisbane (2007).
• No more mX newspapers
• They wrote what? MX going down swinging
But a decision to axe mX was announced last month, with a spokesman from News Corp – who produced the paper – telling The New Daily at the time.
“The decision is a reflection of the changing reading habits of commuters, who now turn to their mobile phones and tablets on their way to and from work,” he said.
Friday’s front page was adorned with the following message: “From all of us at mX, a heartfelt thanks for picking us up and letting us share your ride home.
“We hope you’ve enjoyed the journey as much as we have. Here’s looking at all of you.”
Twitter users were sad to see the paper go.

Oh @mx, what am I going to do without you? You were a nice break from online social media. I will miss you very much. #ripmX
