Three young children aged under five were injured by an exploding oven in Sydney on Thursday morning.

The blast occurred at a home on Glebe Point Road in the inner western suburb of Glebe shortly before 11:20am, a NSW ambulance spokeswoman told The New Daily.

The cause of the explosion was a fire caused by an exploding oven, police have told local media.

The children are being treated at the Sydney Children’s Hospital for burns to their upper bodies.

One child is in a serious condition with “more serious” burns, while the other two were described as stable, suffering “superficial” burns, the spokeswoman said.

The victims were reportedly boys aged three and four and a girl aged two.

Initial reports had suggested the incident had occurred at a child care centre, which proved false.
