Despite boasting nicer weather, residents of New South Wales are fleeing the state faster than anywhere else, with almost 43,000 people leaving over the same six months.

While Sydney is the biggest destination for overseas migration , NSW still had a net emigration of 2000 people – much higher than the 1300 people who left South Australia.

Most people moving to Victoria were from Queensland, Western Australia and NSW.

According to the ABS, Melbourne’s population will double by 2056 to reach 8 million people, making it bigger than Sydney.

Perth would also eclipse Brisbane to become Australia’s third largest city.

Until 2012, Queensland was the number one state for Australians moving interstate, but Victoria has held this position since then.
